Survived By: His wife, Barbara Jane Osborne Vest of Greenwood; two daughters, Patrice Vest Peacock of Greenwood and Melissa Vest Tucker of Iuka; a sister, Bonnie Pace of Shannon; and four grandchildren, Reahgan Bradshaw and Kennedie Beam, both of Iuka, and Easton Peacock and Katy Peacock, both of Greenwood.

James worked 28 years as a fireman for the city of Greenwood retiring with the rank of captain. During that time he worked part-time for Greenwood Leflore Hospital and after retiring from the fire department worked full-time at the hospital as an electrician. He attended North Greenwood Baptist Church and the Salvation Army Church. He loved to scuba dive, was a rescue scuba diver, was the longest-standing certified EMT in Mississippi and was a CPR instructor.
