Greenwood, MS: George H. Smith, Jr., 63, died Friday July 12, 2013 at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital. A memorial service will be 11 A.M. Monday July 15, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Monday in the parlor of the Russell Building of First Methodist Church.

George was born in Greenwood to Georg H. and Iva Dell Pullen Smith. He had been a lifelong resident of Greenwood. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Delta State University. He had worked for Henderson-Baird Hardware for 25 years and later a sales representative for Plastic Tubing Inc. George loved hunting, fishing and cooking, was a member of the White House Hunting Club, a member of the Elk’s Club, a former member of the Kiwanis and Jaycees. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed his family and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry Alonzo Smith and a sister-in-law Caroline Smith.

George is survived by his wife, Sherrill Lewis Smith, a daughter, Kristin S. Mattox and her husband Chad, a son, Shane Smith and his wife Claire, three grandchildren, Kate Harding Mattox, Emma Lewis Mattox, and Elizabeth Dell “Libby” Smith, all of Greenwood, MS, his sister, Becky S. Avant and her husband Richard of Greenwood, MS, three brothers, Larry E. Smith, of Ocean Spring, MS, Danny Smith and his wife Sissy of Greenwood, MS, David Smith and his wife Julia of Benton, AR and numerous nieces and nephews.
